What are tech cards?
What is a tech card?
So you might be hearing streamers, professional players and reviews saying "you tech against ***" or "the win rate depends on the tech cards’", so what does this mean?
The meaning of tech cards is to specifically add a few key cards into your deck to get a better win rate compared to if you didn’t add these type of cards. A prime example is when Grim Patron decks were at every tournament, most decks but specifically druid, people usually bring the likes of Acidic swamp ooze or Harrison Jones to destroy their Deaths bite or Fiery war axe! To the normal player base of hearthstone, this might be a small situation that you wouldn’t include, but when you have four Grim Patrons by turn five this could really affect the early game quickly.
What other cards are considered tech cards?
Brawl is a warrior based card, mostly seen in control warrior situationally. In a most aggressive Meta where you see a lot of Face Hunter, Flood Zoo and Midrange Druid, most Warrior players will include two to deal with the large board size. Often you will see this if people decide to play the fatigue style of control warrior with Justicar, Deathlord’s and even tournament medics in some decks.
Back when Hunter was still a viable card and secret paladin was starting to be the most dominate deck, people starting running Flare, a card that will destroy every opponent's secret which of course for Paladin was a big deal because you usually dedicate 8-10 cards out of 30 based on secrets. Due to hunter not being as popular as it used to be, Paladins rise to the top has been present in the recent weeks in the preliminaries.
So the famous card to tech against Freeze Mage and commonly most seen in RenoDecks, the card is known to be taking the key ice block, or the freezing trap from hunter or even something like counter spell. The card isn’t really seen yet, even though Freeze Mage has been so popular recently, so expect the odd tech from this guy.
The Black Knight:
Not seen for a long time, Black Knight has been a commonly tech card mainly against Ramp Druid. To destroy the likes of Ancient of War and Sludge Belcher is ceetainly a task even if you use an owl to get rid of the taunt. At the time that was an easy auto include.
Runners up: Big game hunter!
Known as the common DR Boom killer, the card destroys a 7 or more attack minion which deals with Boom along with Alexstraza, Deathwing and even Rag.
Mind Control Tech:
RNG Tech, the card that has been the bane in most people's side. The card takes one minion from the battlefield of four. People use this card to tech against the likes of Flood Zoo or even Patron Warrior to make a huge tempo swing with a 3 mana 3/3 along with a random minion from the other side.
